Char – Black in the UK – A perceived threat

Today on Cuppa’ Tea, Char joined us for the second time after her invitation to answer any questions anyone from the DyeHard community wanted her perspective of – completely free of judgement.

We got to understand her upbringing and the constant thoughts she has going through her mind about the level of her Blackness and how this is perceived in society.

The paranoia that goes along with that is exhausting and constantly being reminded that there has been a narrative in this country that, depending on what she is dressed like, or sounds like, that she immediately a person not worth spending time or being around for fear of something bad happening.

Char also provided her opinion on the removal of statues and Hannah G commented that “History and monuments are two different things!”

I agree!

The important aspect in this narrative is that that decision comes from the top. The statutes should be removed by the authorities to show that what they stand for is not acceptable. Images of “Black and white lefties” ripping down statues is not going to progress an overall movement.

We still had loads of questions left over so Char is coming back in a week or two to talk to us again about her experiences in the future.

Never forget to laugh

Today on Cuppa’ Tea we had a really good fun! Everyone was laughing along as we talked about food of all things!

The world we all live in has been under so much pressure that sometimes we just need to be silly and laugh. I hope that we all created that environment today.

The ability to laugh with others and ourselves is the tonic we all need in times that grind us down. Laughing literally lifts us up and benefits our mood and physical health.

We’re all doctors to each other!

We smashed the record on number of the comments for Cuppa’ Tea with over 300 comments in less than 40 minutes! Wow! The sense of community in this group is phenomenal and I’m so proud that we can all get together and have a laugh in the middle of what is a tense world.

Here were some other quotes I picked out:

“Thanks for all the laughs … you’re tonics ❤️❤️❤️❤️ all of you” Colly D, 2020

“I’m laughing and Amelia told me to grow up and stop being silly 😂😂😂” Lauren G-E 2020

And my person favourite, from a new member of the DyeHard family:

“it’s like a naughty version of being at slimming world! ahha” Hannah G 2020

Thank you each and everyone of you! ❤️❤️❤️

Imposter Syndrome

Today on Welcome Wednesday we had Chrissie, The Inspire Coach, join us on the show to discuss with us Imposter Syndrome.

It was a great session with some great comments from people who not realised how imposter syndrome had affected them. Through the discussion they are now able to recognise their thoughts patterns and re-centre themselves as someone when can, someone who can achieve and someone who is an expert.

We learnt that comparisons with others are dangerous and holding too tightly to an outcome that others have achieved. All that matters is the progress we’ve made on ourself since the last time we checked in, not against other people.

Take a look at the video and the comments on the video to find out for yourself.

Thank you so much Chrissie for joining us today!
